The First Lady Comes to Chengdu

March 2014 Michelle Obama comes to Chengdu

So March was a really busy month for us.  Actually it started before that.  Kelly got the great assignment to be the First Lady's Control Officer.  He was basically in charge of her trip to Chengdu.  He was so busy planning everything, talking to people in Washington, taking her pre advance team and advance team all around the city, trying to figure out her schedule.  10 days before she came, she a a advance team come to make sure everything was in order.  He had to go around with them and make sure everything would run smoothly.  They had a few hiccups along the way, but everything went great and Kelly was an amazing control officer.  Some of her team even said he was one of the best they have had.  So great job Kelly, it was so nice to have him home after all that.  He had to work soooo late so many times for this and on weekends.  It was crazy, but I think it was a great experience for Kelly and really cool for Chengdu to have her visit.  She had a meet and great for us at the consulate.  Luckily we are such a small Consulate it was closer and she took the time to shake all our hands and have fun a bit with the kids and take a picture with the school aged kids.  Lincoln and Sawyer got to take a picture with her.  She was really cute, after she gave her speech, they started playing "Be Happy" from Despicable Me.  She started dancing to where the kids were sitting.  Then she asked them if they ate their veggies and they all said NO.  It was really funny, she had the kids laughing.  It was a really cool experience.
