Pet Street

Another weekend in January, I think this was before going to the Mask Museum, because we couldn't use our car yet.  So we took the Metro to Pet Street.  A really fun street selling all sorts of pets.  Tons and tons of fish, cats, hamsters, dogs, weird colored frogs, .......  The kids loved looking at all the animals.  It was so fun to see Mabel.  She was so happy to be there and was just in love with the kittens and little hamsters running around their cages.  She is talking a lot and was saying "soo tute!!"  We also got to pet some puppies.  They were adorable.  The kids wanted to bring one home.  I've made that mistake before, so I resisted the temptation.  Maybe someday.  They kids were petting the puppies, then the owner said "Chinese parents don't let their kids touch the dogs".  Oops!  We washed hands afterwards, but they were so cute!  Hard to resist!

After checking out the pets, we walked around a bit more looking for some lunch.  I love these little bundled up Chinese babies.  Chinese families usually only have 1 child.  There are some exceptions, and today they are lifting that law a bit.  But most families still only have 1 child.  And that child is being raised by Grandma and Grandpa.  So most of the time when you see children on the street, they are with grandma or grandpa.  The mom usually has to work and it is expected for the grandparents to raise the grandchild and when they become grandparents they will then raise their grandchild.  I think I would be so sad not to be able raise my children.  It is a different life.  I guess when you are only going to have one child, you need to keep your job.  So that is where the grandparents come in to help.

We walked around during lunchtime.  I thought this was really fun to watch.  Everyone pulled up tables and bought out food, right there on the sidewalk.  These are people who owned, or worked in the shops.  The food looked pretty good!  Sadly we ended up eating at McDonalds.  I know, but we weren't familiar with the area and weren't sure what places were good.  So we took the kids to what we already knew!

I love this last picture.  This lady is walking around in her pajamas.  Really warm ones.  People are always doing that and walking around in their slippers.  See, she is wearing slippers.  I can't believe they do that when we see what is on the ground, YUCK!!!  But they do!  I am going to buy Kelly a pair of awesome warm pajamas!  Maybe they will have a cute bear on them also!
