Picking Strawberries

Today we went strawberry picking. Since we don't have a garden ourselves, farmers are kind enough to let us pay to pick their fruits and vegetables for them. Since being on the east coast we've done apple picking every year, but I have never done strawberries before. We had a ton of fun and I can't wait to pick raspberries in July. It was way too hot though. They even had a heat advisory out today. It's 93 degrees now, but with the humidity it feels a lot worse. Luckily we left early and were done by 11am. Lincoln loved picking the strawberries. He kept eating them as he was picking. He would take a few bites then put them back in our box. So we have a bunch of half eaten strawberries for the jam.
We have had some weird weather lately. On Wednesday we had such terrible storms, a few tornadoes came really close and it rained like crazy. Our electricity was off from 2pm to around 4 am the next morning. I didn't have anything for us to eat for dinner, so when kelly came home he and Lincoln got in the car to go on an adventure to see if they could find something open. Lincoln took his tools with him so he could fix the lights. The grocery store was open, they were using their generators. Kelly had a lot of fun letting Lincoln pick out our dinner. They got chips, curious george fruit snack, animal crackers, apple jacks, bread and fruit. Oh yes and Ice Cream. We had to give it to our neighbors after eating some because our freezer was off. It was a very healthy dinner. We realized we really need to buy a grill because without electricity, we can't cook anything. Luckily it wasn't off too long.
After these storms, we now have a true DC summer, 90's plus high humidity.
