Weather report for Riga
This week it is CCCCOOOOOLLLLLDDDD!!!! This morning as I WALKED the kids 20 mins to preschool, it was -25 C = -15 F. It was very exciting!!! It reminded me of when I was a missionary in Siberia. I'm just glad I was able to leave Isabel with Victoria, she cleans our house on tuesdays, I know it sounds funny and snooty to have a house keeping, but that is one of the many pluses for living overseas. Of course there and many minuses too. Like having to walk everywhere even when it is -15 F outside. BUt that can be a plus too, it's kind of fun sometimes and it sure gets the blood flowing.
We went to an Ice Sculpture Festival on Saturday. Kelly stayed home with Isabel since she was sick and I took the boys. It was also a very very very cold day. Probably around -5 F. We drove about an hour. It was an embassy activity, so we all followed one another. The lead car had a GPS and they don't work so great sometimes. So instead of taking us to the parking lot next to the festival, he took us to a parking lot basically right inside of the city. Needless to say we had to walk about 20-30 mins to get to the festival. With kids it took a while. I pulled Sawyer on the sled and Lincoln walked. Complaining of course. By the time everyone got there, we were all too cold, so we didn't stay long. The kids and I rode an airplane ride, slid down an ice slide and then we left. I only saw about half the sculptures. ON the way back Sawyer's hands were freezing, I didn't realize he had been dragging them in the snow all the way, so they were wet. So he was screaming. Poor boy. I ended up carrying him on my shoulders and luckily, I had given a ride to one of the marines(nice guy, doesn't have a car, newly divorced, misses his kids) he pulled Lincoln in the sled and we booked it back to the car. I'm sure glad I gave him a ride, since Kelly wasn't there, we would have just froze. Not sure if it was worth it, would have been much nicer if we would have parked next to the festival, less time in the freezing cold.
