Marine Ball

Kelly and I went to the Marine Ball here in Latvia. It was really fun. Everyone gets really dressed up, all the girls get their hair done, ect. I got my hair and makeup done. I"m sure glad I did that, I wasn't going to get my makeup done, but glad I did, I totally don't know how to put makeup on and she did a great job without making me look like clown. The Marines put this ball on every year around the time of the Marine birthday. They had a specially program in the beginning honoring those tough marines, then they "Marched on the Cake". They marched a cake out into the center of the room, then cut the cake with a sword. They gave the first slice of cake to the Ambassador, and the second piece of cake to the oldest retired Marine living in Latvia. After he takes a bite, he passes on the cake to the youngest Marine and he takes a bite. Very interesting. I think the Ambassador was trying to hold back a laugh, she felt pretty stupid taking a bite of the Marine cake in front of everyone. After that we had dinner and then danced the night away. It was sure fun getting all dressed up.
