Week 2 in Latvia

We still don't have our computer so I'm not uploading any pictures yet, but I will soon. Hopefully we will get our air shipment sometime this week. Well, I am going to try and write at least weekly so I can keep a better journal of the going ons around here. Things have been great and we couldn't ask for better weather. It is starting to get a little cold in the morning, not bad, but you need a ligth jacket. It feels so great though. Sawyer and Lincoln are doing great. Sawyer is screaming less before he goes to sleep. He usually only screams for a couple of minutes now, so it's much better than before. The problem is he doesn't let us rock him anymore. He just wants to leave the room, so we just have to let him cry in his crib. He used to let me rock him all the time, maybe once we get our nice rocking chair it will be better. Well, last night we made the mistake of trying to put both boys in the same room. It didn't work. LIncoln kept getting out of bed and Sawyer kept screaming so neither of them could get to sleep. So we finally put Sawyer back in his room and they both fell asleep quickly after that. I think we have to wait till Sawyer is a little older, maybe when he is 2years old.

We went to church for the first time yesterday. It was really interesting. They have 2 LDS branches here, one Latvian one and one Russian one. We tried the Russian one first. The other Americans go to the Latvian one and they have an english sunday school and the missionaries translate for them. But I really wanted to try the Russian one first. I loved it. It is really small, with only a few kids, so our kids were pretty noisy for the first hour. Especially becuase I thought I could get Sawyer nap before church at 1pm, but of course I couldn't get him down, so he was really tired. He didn't do so bad though, maybe he was just more interested in the new place and new language. So Kelly couldn't understand anything, so that was not so much fun for him, but I just loved to here the language again and was surprised that I could understand most of it. After the first hour, Lincoln went to primary for the little kids. THere were only 2 other kids and a great teacher. ONe of the sister missionaires stayed and helped and translated for Lincoln. I stayed wiht him for a while and then decided to leave because he does so much better without me. It sounded like he had a great time. Everyone was very nice and happy to have us there. I'm not sure what to do though because the Latvian branch would be better for Kelly and the kids. THey have about 10 other americans going, but I would miss the Russian. We will see, maybe we can switch off.

We went to our first get together with the other embassy people last thursday. We met at an outside bar. It was great fun to meet some people but the boys were way too tired so we didnt' last too long. BUt we have been meeting a lot of great people. We went to a great restuarant last Wednesday called Lito. It is so great for kids. It is cafeteria style so you can feed the kids as soon as you get there and you can see all the food before you get it. THen they have a supervised play area for the kids 3 yrs and older and I can take Sawyer but you have to stay there with him. It is a great place to play, they also have a ton of stuff to do outside for the kids, fun rides and stuff. We will be going there a lot.

We are so lucky to be living where we are living. We have parks everywhere around us. This morning we went to a bigger park and they have some little electric cars and motorbikes for little kids to ride on. YOu pay 2 $ for 5 mins. Kind of a lot for 5 mins, but fun to do every once in a while. They also have a big bouncy thing you can pay to jump in. We havne' done that yet, but Lincoln's riden the green car twice.

Lincoln is going to start preschool this thursday. We are going to take hime to the same preschool the girl that goes to the same church as we do and she has two kids almost the same ages. It will be better for Lincoln to have another american in his class. It is a Latvian preschool. I wanted to find a RUssian one, but they are really far away, so I think this will work just fine.

Things are going great, we love it here and today I just had my first cleaning lady come. It's not very expensive and she comes from 9am-2pm and cleans everything. It is so nice, this is really why I joined the foreign service so I don't have to do stuff like this. We have all wood floors in a very spacious apartment so it is so nice to be able to walk on clean floors again. She is from the Ukraine, so it is nice to be able to speak to her in RUssian. NOw I just need to find me a Russian tutor and we will be set, and of course a babysitter.

Sorry about the lack of pictures, hopefully we will get out Mac soon and I will upload some pictures.

Awesome, awesome! Especially the cleaning lady. Do you think they need a foot doctor in the foreign service? He could be one of those "foot doctors" that is really just a spy, you know? I just want a cleaning lady, too... :)
