Happy Fourth of July!!!
We decided to go and see the fireworks by the Iwo Jima memorial. We had never done that before, but some friends of ours go there everyyear. It is a great place to see the fireworks without dealing with the crowds on the National Mall. We sat on a hill under the memorial, by the Arlington Cemetary. We parked just on the side of the freeway. As we were getting everyone out of the car a police officer told us they weren't letting anyone up by the memorial because a tornado was coming through. So he told us to stay close to our car. A Tornado????? Crazy, so we had a picnic by our car until it started to poor (we were in our friends van). It rained really hard for a long time. Kelly had to go to work and send some things off real quick, so he was going to meet us at the memorial. He was done so he took the metro to the closest station to us. Then instead of waiting till the rain stopped he walked in it without an umbrella. Needless to say he was drenched. He said he didn't want to wait any longer for KFC (sorry Busby's we couldn't find a close Poppeys). Finally the rain stopped and we were able to find a good place to see the fireworks. We had a great view of the Lincoln memorial and the national monument.
